Jack Loew does not have to have numerous championship fighters to prove he is a better trainer than that asshole. He has dedication, and Heart, two things in which Steward has never had in this! Jack and Kelly have a connection no one could ever touch, They believe in eachother and support in eachother. When things did not go their way immediately or perfectly...THEY fought harder, now can ANYONE say the same for Taylor and Steward? Jacks strategy, heart, and love for this sport and kelly are what make him a better trainer than steward is or ever was!

Stupid? You watched this fight? You heard Steward tell Taylor that kelly couldn't fight at that pace. You heard him spell out the "strategy" of standing in front of him?

Steward is overrated. You know nothing about the fight game. Manny was once dedicated to boxing. Now he's more into Manny Inc...pimping himself and making money doing everything except training.

Taylor was given a lousy fight plan, and was never told to go to plan B when he was getting hit hard. It was all Manny's fault. Taylor did as he was told.

Just like Tony said. Loew is not a better trainer than Emanuel. That is like saying Grady Sizemore is a better ballplayer than Willie Mays. Steward has multiple championship fighters under his wing. Taylor was outmannned. He was not unprepared at all. When you write stupid things like that it makes people wonder if you know what you are talking about at all. That fight was over when Pavlik took Taylor's best stuff and got back up. That is simply a stronger man against the weaker opponent. I thought Taylor was very prepared and in pretty good shape. He is just not as good a boxer/fighter as Pavlik, period. Emanuel knew this before the fight too.

I have to say, I would not go there yet. He is good, but having ONE fighter win a major bout should not deem him the best. But, I will say, he is quite a guy. His training fit Pavlik to KO. Manny is loosing his touch I'd say. He gets too wound up in emotions instead of observation. Now to the person whom said Manny gave bad advice, it's simply not true. Taylor didn't LISTEN to his advice and Pavlik listened to Loew. There in lies the difference. One fighter listened and didn't UNDERestimate his opponent and the other fighter didn't listen and he DID underestimate his opponent and that's why he lost; not to mention getting pounded in his dome piece. I have to ask anyone whom DVR'd it....Did you notice Pavlik almost knocked him down in the first round. Just take a good look. Taylor was almost done in the first. I just want to take this opportunity to say: GOOD GOING GUYS. GIVING YOUNGSTOWN SOME POSITIVITY.

The fact that Steward isn't as great a trainer as he's made out to be makes me feel rather bad for Taylor: he's obviously an excellent fighter with lots of skill, but it goes to waste when the trainer gives him crap advice. Of course in this case I'm glad he got the crap advice (though Our Boy Kelly would've beat him no matter what), but even so, it's still a bit of a shame.

I whole-heartedly concur with Observer's comment about a hired gun vs. someone who's been with a fighter from the beginning. Right on.

Congrats to Kelly and to Jack Loew for all of their hard work and dedication. The title victory was well-deserved. Keep it up, fellas! We're all (including this Youngstown expat in Boston) so incredibly proud!!!

The amazing part is that Bob Arum was trying to squeeze Jack out of the picture at the time of the Miranda fight.

Taylor stops jabs and right hands with his face. And he leans over his feet. Tailor made for a punch who sets it up with a jab, Pavlik. Steward gave bad advice in my opinion but you can't change a dog's spots. Taylor is what he is. Jackie Loew wow. Makes me smile. He was always a football player. From the Lttle Redmen to Mooney. The Cleveland School days. It's great to see him teach and train boxing. It must be a love because he was a good running back and I always though he would coach.
Steward had to talk Taylor up. Everyone saw Pavlik beat up the bully,Miranda. He had to build his fighter's confidence. But there is a new champ from Youngstown. Congrats Kelly Pavlik and Jack Loew. Job well done.

Excellent point. Manny Steward has a pedigree that Loew can't touch, YET. Fighters have sought out Stewart because he is perceived as being the best. But I think the "best" trainer isn't the hired gun, it's the guy who got you where you are and knows you and your ability just as well as you know it yourself. That's Jack and Kelly to a T.
Lennox Lewis, in both the Miranda fight and against Taylor, was quietly praising Loew without using those express words. Jack is the perfect trainer for Kelly and will be a very, very good trainer for any fighters who now come to him.
Here's what I don't get about Steward: His reputation and career didn't need Jermaine Taylor. He acted like a fool talking smack about Kelly and Jack all week and then even admitted that he did it to motivate his fighter. I have two problems with that. What kind of a slug is Taylor that he needed that charade, and how will Manny's future fighters be able to trust him in the future?
Picture yourself as a boxer. All that training, all that counsel provided by your trainer. Then you're on a stool in between rounds and he's still talking to you. Is this guy really telling you the truth? Is he telling you to do what's right? Does he have YOUR best interests at heart? I think Manny sold a large chunk of his credibility on Taylor. In the 4-5 fights since he switched to Manny, Taylor has proven an inability to listen to instructions even when he had no reason to question Manny's honesty. How can they continue to work together now? Jermaine needs to dump Manny and go back to his original trainer. Make it them against the world again.
As for Jack and Kelly, just keep on keeping on. Kelly is a great fighter and is a great champion. However, he will not be the same fighter without Jack. Kelly is getting all the fanfare, and I'm sure that is fine with Jack Loew. He knows what he did and he knows it likely wouldn't have happened without him. I don't see either one of them becoming complacent now.
Also, I think I'm going to get the PPV fight this weekend just so I can here what Manny has to say about the Pavlik fight.
I don't know if boxing has this award, but Jack Loew should be the Trainer of the Year.

Give Jack Loew his due, he kept his cool when the tough got going in the second round. He had a calming influence on Kelly that helped him realize it was still his fight to win. Congrats to Kelly and to Jack and all who believed.
